I spent 2 days in Singapore and saw a lot of the country. If you’re planning a trip here I think 2 full days is the perfect amount of time to explore. Stick to these 5 tips to make sure you have the best experience while you’re there.
1. Make a list of places you want to see
Singapore is amazing and there is no shortage of tourist attractions. Not that I’m complaining, but it will keep you busy if you want to hit them all in two days. The main ones being the Gardens by the Bay and the Botanical garden. Just in case you’re curious what spots I hit, I went to Chinatown, Clarke Quay, the light show at Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, and The Marina Bay Shoppes.
2. Use public transportation
Singapore has the CLEANEST public transportation I have ever seen. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s worth going to Singapore just to witness this sparkly underground train system, plus its the fastest way to get around. The average cost per ticket was about $2 SIN one way, much cheaper than a taxi or Grab (their Uber service out there).
3. Dress to impress
Singapore is one of the more expensive countries in Southeast Asia and now I see why. Everyone was dressed up and looked their best. I am definitely not fancy enough for Singapore. All I wore were jean shorts, t-shirts and beach dresses. Meanwhile, the majority of people around me were rocking Prada, Gucci, Lui, and some expensive brands I haven’t even heard of. Trust me, they had them all. You will definitely see people dressed to impress if you plan to go to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
4. Be aware of what time you eat dinner
After exploring for a few hours in the hot sun I was getting extremely hungry. It was 3pm and I could hear my stomach talking to me. We went to Telok Air to check out the popular Hawker Stalls known for its street food. To our disappointment, the majority of them were closed. We walked across the street and saw a line of restaurants, but all of them were closed too. Between 3pm-5pm they all close to prepare for dinner. So we had to wait for another 2 hours until we could eat. I was not a happy camper lol.
5. Spend some time in the airport
This might seem like a weird tip, but a lot of people don’t know Singapore has the #1 airport in the world. Here’s why:
- Everything is self-automated from checking into your flight to boarding your flight.
- It has an indoor waterfall (it is on the outside of the airport, so you need to go see it before you enter TSA security)
- Each terminal has its perks. My gate was in Terminal 4, and while it had some cool stuff it isn’t as bad*** as the other 3 terminals. However, my terminal did had an indoor garden, indoor kids playground, a slide to the next floor, and some really cool furniture
- I read that the other terminals have free massages, a pool, kinetic rain sculpture, a butterfly garden, and more. If the free massages don’t convince you, I don’t know what will.
