We have our whole lives ahead of us but everyone says our twenties will be the best years of our life. Whether that’s true or not you should treat it like it is. Here are 22 things to do to make sure you live it up in your twenties!
1) Do something completely out of your comfort zone
If you aren’t living a life worth telling your kids about then what are you doing? Now is the time to start! Do something that scares you and pushes you to the edge. In the end, you’ll be happy you did it or at least pushed past your fears. I went to San Francisco by myself and had the best time and came back with many stories to share.
2) Start your own business
We are in the age of entrepreneurs. Every single day someone is saying, “You know what, this business is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m going to figure out how to make it happen.” The road won’t be easy but it will be something you can look back on and be proud of that you gave it you’re all. Who knows you could become the next Bill Gates.
3) Change your hairstyle
Switch it up every once in a while. Change is good, and the good thing about hair is that it grows back. If you aren’t interested in doing something permanemt then try a temporary dye or a wig.
4) Travel to other countries often— and sometimes alone
There is a whole world out there waiting for you to see it. So save up your money and book a vacation. You know you deserve it. If you can’t find anyone one to go with, try taking a solo trip. This is becoming more and more common, and there are so many people that travel alone. The news for you is that’s just more people you can meet on the road and establish life-long bonds with.
5) Run a marathon
This is on a lot of people’s bucket list and for good reason. If you can accomplish running a marathon then nothing can stop you.
6) Participate in a bar crawl
It’s like happy hour on steroids. Do I need to say more? Almost every city has one and they usually have a theme, like 90’s kids or sports.
7) Get a tattoo
Nothing says bold like getting something permanent. Find something meaningful to you or something you know you’d like to have on your body.
8) Go to a professional game
What’s your favorite sport? Or who is your home team? Go watch a game or match and drink a beer as you soak in all of the competitive energy surrounding you. Participate in yelling at the opposing team and chanting for your team to win.
9) Start a gym membership
Maintain your body like you maintain your back account. Check up on it regularly, make sure it’s healthy, and never let it run low (meaning maintain a consistent status).
10) Try a new food that scares you
Remember the one about having stories to tell you’re kids? Well, this is a good place to start. A lot of times things taste much better than they look. Just close your eyes and go in for a big bite. At least you can say you tried it.
11) Live by yourself
Your twenties are all about freedom and choosing what the heck you want to do with your life. Living on your own is a great way to figure out adulthood and find new things to do in your free time.
12) Throw a surprise party for a friend
There’s no better feeling than the look on your friends face when they’re overwhelmed with emotions. Shock, joy, embarrassment, happiness, all in one. It will make their birthday unforgettable.
13) Call out “sick” at work
This is something you definitely shouldn’t do often, but at least once play hooky.
14) Have a splurge day every once in a while
It’s OKAY to treat yourself. Nuff said.
15) Discover a new hobby or passion
The best way to find what you like and don’t like is to keep trying something new. The older you get the more you realize what you don’t like.
16) Teach yourself a new language
How cool would it be to call yourself bilingual!? Imagine traveling to another country and being able to understand every word the locals are saying and communicating back to them.
17) Go on a camping trip
Ahhhhh the great outdoors. Get up close and personal with nature and watch the stars at night. Cook your food above a fire, cozy up in a tent, and purify your water from a local stream. Make sure to bring bug spray!
18) Pay off your debt and loans
Go into your thirties debt and worry-free. If this is something you are trying to accomplish but you feel like you need help, seek guidance from a money counselor, or take a money class, or ask friends or family members that you know have done it.
19) Don’t compare yourself to others
Maybe all of your friends are skyrocketing in their careers, getting married, or having kids and you’re just sitting there wondering when it’s your turn. Everyone moves at a different pace and that is OKAY. I’m a strong believer in everything happens for a reason—your moments will come, and when they do it’ll be perfect timing.
20) Do a social media cleanse
This one hit home didn’t it? I know how hard it can be to put my phone down, let alone give up my favorite apps. But trust me it is good for your SOUL. Test it out for three days to one week and see how much it changes you.
21) Adopt a pet
There are so so so many beautiful animals out there that need a home. After a while, sometimes the shelter will euthanize animals if they have been there too long. You can save an animal that has been abused, forgotten, or is old by adopting.
22) Grow your savings account
Stack them coins and I mean stack them HIGH. The more you save, the more retirement starts to look like something that’s around the corner rather than a few decades away.
